Serge Sainte Rose: From Britain to the Caribbean and Back

Covent Garden Sinfonia
Julienne Mahailet soprano
Chantal Brown mezzo-soprano
Joel O’Cangha tenor
Yann Villageois Caribbean percussion
Oscar Martinez Caribbean percussion
Ben Palmer conductor

It's a journey oscillating between the Caribbean and Britain, swayed by a symphony orchestra, rocked by world percussion, and vibrating to the sound of soul-stirring voices. These original compositions, featuring three singers and two world percussionists, merge traditional orchestral music with Caribbean influences from composer Serge Sainte Rose's native Martinique and across the wider region. This vibrant musical odyssey, performed by the Covent Garden Sinfonia, is both a bridge between different cultures and a reflection of Sainte Rose's personal story, from growing up in the West Indies to living in Europe.
